Blog Classic: New York, Summer 2000

Reach deep, deep, deep into the vault:

The specs: I shot this with my trusty Canon AE-1 in the year 2000 (say it like Conan O’Brien) filter-less. It was a bright, sunny day, so the film picked up all the heat.

For those of you who don’t know, this is the Flatiron Building, the first building built with a steel frame. It is a lovely building. It is also something that I photograph constantly. We could have a whole nuther blog of just the photos I’ve shot of this thing over the years. There are volumes. Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen, who are pretty much the fathers’ of modern photography made iconic pictures of this building that I have spent years trying to recreate, sorry be inspired by. The photo above was the first photo I took of the Flatiron I was proud of.

The building might be make a few more appearances here, I’ll just say that much, so consider this pink shot a preview for the future.
