Every entry up here features me talking about how much I love photographing a particular thing and how it is my favorite, favorite. Yes, I have many favorites and I like to photograph many things. The only things I aggressively do not like photographing are cliches like flowers or angels or something like that. Photographing people is also not my most favorite thing in the world, but I can do it.
As I have said up here before I like photographing fashion, as shown in the entry below. I consider myself to be a person who is at least relatively well dressed most of the time, unless I am going out to take photos. Then I dress like a shlub. I’d love to design clothes but I have no clue how and I can’t seem to find a starting point for that. For now I can just point out what patterns in buildings I think would look great as a dress. Let Project Runway decide what kind of pleat it needs.
Industrial is another thing I have a particular fondness for photographing. I have some ideas as to why this is. The first is that the country I come from was going through an industrial transformation when I was born. Now its not like I remember this, but I watched a movie about this a while back and suddenly realized that these are my memories of that place, so somewhere within me, they are etched.
The other reason is that I have long admired the work of 1930s lady photographer Margaret Bourke White. Her industrial shots cause photo envy in me like few other things. That coupled with the fact that she had an office at the top of the Chrysler Building (sorta the patron saint of this blog) makes her envied by me, as well as my idol.
Recently I had three hours in New York and I only managed to take about 200 photos before the oppressive heat forced me indoors. New York is quite great for industrial shots and as usual, I am drawn to them. Let’s just see:
Yes, it is a truck and no it is not a factory, but I liked the kind of swirl going on in the photograph.
Next up:
Yes, it is the alien vehicle and I realize these have reappeared up here, but it is also extremely industrial.
Lastly, my real and true bid to be Mrs Margaret Bourke White. Let’s see how close I actually got:
Real industrial, real grit. I love it. Do you?
