A Big Pencil and A Small House

I could wax on allegorically about my love of the big and the small forever, but I won’t.  I will just say that the following photos are not what you think they are.  They also remind me of those kind of scenes you’d see at an old museum, like the Museum of Natural History in New York.  But alas, these are from Boston:

He’s the singing “Do You Have Any Spare Change” Man

Downtown Crossing and by extension Boston Common have two “do you have any spare change” guys.  The first one has a more extended delivery of “do you have any spare change.”  He says “doooooo yooooouuuuu haaaaaaaave aaaaaaaaany spaaaaaaare chaaaaaaange.”

This guy however takes a singing approach to his delivery.  Just sing “do you have any spare change” and you got it.  Just don’t try to photograph him without actually giving him any spare change.  Because he will make this face:

Paris

On the Charles.  What if Boston was entirely covered with Beaux Arts carvings and details with a little bit of Art Deco thrown in there. Well, I can dream.  In the meantime, Paris.  On the Charles River:

Bill Was Right

Photographer Bill Cunningham is my hero and the patron saint of this blog.  In my dreams, he reads this blog.  In actuality he probably doesn’t be I like to think he does.

Well, I just wanted to post this photo to let Bill know he was right.  People are matching their outfits to the fall colors:

Stained Glass

I can’t call this entry just plain “foliage.”  Or “fall foliage.”  That was be kind of lame.  I’d rather call it stained glass, as that is what these images remind me of.  Images or times when light flashes in through a very subtly colored window.

Stained glass:

World’s Greatest Latte

Food Network has this ingenious little show on called “Best Thing I Ever Ate” where they profile the different “Best Thing” ever eaten by their cast of chefs.  Sometimes the things they show are a bit weird, but most of the time, the stuff makes me want to reach through my screen and take it out of their hands.  A place down the street here actually got profile not long ago and I was quite proud of my humble neighborhood being on the show.

Boston is a foodie city, but there are things here that are worth looking into, food wise.  For one thing, the Japanese-French bakery up the street from me that serves the best croissant I’ve eaten outside of Paris.  Another place in Boston serves this:

Yeah, it looks like a regular latter, but this is the world’s greatest latte for one reason.  It is a “Spanish Latte” featuring condensed milk, way superior to regular milk.  I highly recommend it.
