I go to a concert and I spend most of my time looking at the lights….

As is obvious from the previous entries, I went a concert a few days ago.  Like I mentioned, the singing was quite wonderful, but I found myself quite fascinated with the lights.

I think this is a photography thing.  I read a quite good article about Steven Meisel and it said that when he was young one of his most prominent memory was going to a concert and noticing the lights.  I am obviously not Meisel, but we have the photo thing in common, of course.

All right, less jibba jabba and more photos:

I always try something new with these….

Where ever I go I see a photo.  That is just how I see the world.

I also happen to love live music.  I love the energy of it and even the noise.  For years I wanted to photograph performers at concerts and I started trying, but the results were really not great.  My technical skills just weren’t up to par quite yet.  Then my technical skills improved and my band shots improved, but I started to think they look rather standard, rather boring.

Then I started to think “why not shoot this like it is fashion?”  Think of it as a fashion shoot that involves a rock singer.  See if this vision has been successful:

And then I thought the lights were so great at the concert, I should try and integrate them into the photos as well.  And do something that is a wide:

This used to be my Chrysler Building

Before I had a Chrysler Building, I had a Capitol.  That is, the Capitol looks different in different lights and at different angles at different times of day and I spent a lot of time photographing it.  That was on regular olde film, so those photos are stored away.  I took some new ones to sort of illustrate what happens when I get totally obsessed with an object:
