The abridged compendium of Floridian tackiness

If I was were to post photos of every single tacky thing in Florida, this entry would be approximately as long as the unabridged, annotated Oxford English dictionary.  I am sort of a connoisseur of the tacky, but even I can only take so much.  Mae West was wrong.  Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

Now to the tack.  In Florida, the tackiness comes in different form, ranging from architecture to Christmas ornaments.  It all looks a little crazy and a little over done and therefore, delicious and delightful.

Case in point:

OK, after looking at this photo about 18 times I started to think it wasn’t that bad.  But it is also a perfect example of the Floridian tackiness.  This is a simple seating area at a beach and it looks like a set from a 60s heist flick with Steve McQueen.  I’d half expect him to appear here.

Next up, your average Florida info stand:

So much going on there.  So much….

Not to mention the architecture that always just has so much going on or is just in some crazy candy color:

Or again, reminds you of Oceans 11:

Even small, earnest seeming restaurants can fall under the spell of tackiness:

But what always, always gets me about Florida is the use of these statues and figures everywhere.  Most of the time they are to comic effect and I have never seen as many as in Florida.

This first one is similar to one we have seen before:

OK, he looks like a classical Roman statue without all the dirt and grime, but notice how really neat and clean he is.  And the palm trees, oh the palms.

Next:

Well, isn’t he a friendly fellow.  Would you rather look at her?:

Or maybe this thing?:

Or this thing, which I can only assume is modern art because otherwise I don’t have even the slightest clue of what it means:

And the tackiness extends too all holidays and all objects:

I do mean everything:

And that is all from the tack vault.  For now….

A pastiche of an insane cacophony of patchwork

Let’s first inspect our subject:

Sorry, I had to invoke a little Andre Leon Talley, but this was so crazy, I had to do it. First of all, he is an overdone Roman statue. Then, there are palm trees. Then of course there is the whole bow in the background aspect. Crazy. Sometimes when I stand in front of something, I can see the scene and how the photo is going to be and here was one of those cases.
