Blog Classic: Washington D.C. 2001

No news kids. Seriously slow news week. I went nowhere, don’t have any good pictures to reveal this week. Most people that would mean a break in their posting, but whatever, who said I’m most people. Anyway, this week, you my fans, get a treat:

OK, yeah, those of you who have voted on http://www.jonessoda.com/gallery/index.php?offset=1&search=natalia%20radziejewska have seen this photo, but most of you don’t know the story behind it. It isn’t a crazy one, more like one I know will amuse and amaze the photo nerds out there who are my “fan(s).”

This is taken with color infrared film, the diva of the film world. In terms of movie stars, its the Joan Crawford of film mediums. You can only load it in total darkness, or else it gets fogged and only works when shooting in bright light with various filters attached to the camera. It also costs $20 for a roll. Did I mention that the light meter of your average manual SLR gets totally messed up when you bring filters into the game? I got to walk around the day I took these pictures with a light meter around my neck, in addition to the Canon AE-1. Joy.

Also, these pictures are of the annual blooming of the Cherry Blossoms in Washington DC. It happens for about 2 weeks a year and is quite stunning. At the time I took these, I was playing around a lot with infrared. Sure, it is expensive and a pain in ass, but the results, they, well, speak for themselves:

There was no editing here. This is exactly how the photos came out of my camera. Photography at its very best, in my humble opinion.
