Happy May Day

For my blog readers from the parts of the world that celebrate May Day, happy May Day. For those of you who don’t just enjoy the pictures.

I was in downtown Boston finishing my usual business and wanting to enjoy some time in Boston Common. I was expecting to photograph some flowers and swan boats, but instead I got this:

Yeah, weird and graphic and the whole thing. But they belonged to this group of people:

Its May Day, faithful blog readers and that means it is time to protest. This particular group was protesting against the new changes in the immigration laws and also against capitalism. Kind of an interesting mix. May Day is kind of like European labor day and I am not sure what that has to do with immigration, but I’ll go with it.

I started to think a couple of things when I went to this demonstration. The first was how hungry and tired I was. The second thing was that because I take photos of a lot of things, I don’t really need to give my opinion on them and after a lifetime of being labeled as opinionated, it feels kind of freeing to not to have to give an opinion. I can just observe things like this:

I found these sign particularly graphic and cool:

More protest photos? OK:

Well, that is it. And Happy May Day!

  1. Hi Natalia:

I have no idea what this demonstration was for, but this I do know: This march had an unusually high number of Crass fans, and Crass fans excel at being really militant about basically irrelevant causes.

PS: You are a really good photographer
