New York City is all what people say it is and more. It is cosmopolitan, wealthy, poor and full of secrets. People go there to make a fortune, people go there after losing a fortune, people go there to make it in general.
I grew up in New York and my relationship with the City is very complicated. Unlike my true hometown, which is like a half sister I don’t see very often, New York and I are a pair. You can’t separate us. On the other hand, I don’t live there now and haven’t lived there for a while. I also had a real problem living there after I reached adulthood. Something about the aggression of the people bothered me. I heard in a movie recently New York City being described as a city where everyone is some kind of an animal. I think this is true.
However, to quote Woody Allen, his New York City is a city where everything is in black and white and Gershwin is always playing. Mine is too:
