Venice is a great place to keep a secret….
I liked the look in her eyes…
Nightfall
I am not sure where this one goes in the rankings of strange photos….
I went to Venice with a simple goal
To take the ultimate gondoleer shot, blurred background, gondoleer in the foreground. My goal was to get one shot. Let’s just say I got a few more than that:
And this one, which isn’t in the gondoleer portrait category, but captures what I believe does constitute some of their daily lives:
Not to mention this one, who had time to text message:
I came to find out that the gondoleers in Venice are everywhere, just everywhere and are about as easy to find in New York as cab drivers. Except these guys, their boats and they themselves are much more photogenic than your average New York City cab driver. Sorry New York, Venice has you beat with this one. Don’t you agree that 5th avenue or Madison Avenue would never feature scenes like these:
A dog and a cat in Venice

In Piazza San Marco, you must photograph the pigeons….
It is a little known fact that when you enter Italy, you must sign an agreement that if you go to Piazza San Marco, you must photograph the pigeons. I know, Italy has some extremely weird laws, like the one about keeping the Prime Minister who is a nutbar, but what can you do?
Well, anyway, to not run afoul with the Italian authorities, I did as instructed:
Yeah, I guess I am feeling a bit photojournalism today. What can I do? Anyway, this next one was kind of sweet:
These too:
The report from within the horde of pigeons:
And I just loved this one. All of these people look so into the pigeons. The nun could care less:
Venice Darkness
Venice, place of light and light can also be a place of darkness. This particular street sign made me laugh, as did the one of the Malconenti. This next one though, no laughing matter:
This was a jail underneath a super opulent palace of nobles in Venice. It was quite the contrast, like as if the Supreme Court had a giant jail under it. Very spooky, but yet cool at the same time.
