Like the constitution, I hold certain truths to be self evident

And here they are:

1. Vogue Magazine does not have enough material in it to get me through a long commuter ride.

2. The Philadelphia Story will always make me laugh.

3. Hamburgers need onions. Without onions, they are just meat.

4. I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever tire of doing these types of photos:

What is the photographic secret to these?  Wouldn’t you love to know?  Well, it is on the back of the Constitution in the National Archives.  Seek and ye shall find.

Good photos of ugly things?

Its still weird for me to think of myself as a photographer as when I am in the act of photographing, I just think of myself as the goof ball with the picture taking machine, snapping away, hoping no one will ever notice.

I also frequently think of my photographic skill, as in do I have a lot of it, a little or do I just get to go to a lot of beautiful places.  Sometimes I need to take a photo of something really inherently ugly to prove to myself that I can take photos of ugly things and make them beautiful:

I just liked the way this picture sounded

Yeah I just wrote about a picture sounding a certain way. Confused?  Well, let’s look at the photo and then I will explain:

You have angels.  You have variously colored bricks.  I felt like the angels and the bricks play well together.  They seem to have a nice concert together, don’t they?  I think that is an element of a good photograph.  All the elements have to play well together.

I felt like there was a story here

When I was a kid riding the bus, I’d look at the other people on the bus and I’d make up little stories about their lives.  If they were carrying a folder and they were young, they were probably a student.  If they were older and wearing glasses, maybe they were an author.

Now I look at different places and I take their photo with the thinking that there has to be an interesting story going on inside of them.  Take for example:
