This is where I pretend to be a photojournalist

Yeah, well, I occasionally dip into being a photojournalist, or kinda pretend to be one. This was actually an accidental moment of inspiration because I had set out to photograph something completely different, but that turned out to be a bit of a bust. When I saw the kids in this fountain, I really thought it was an opportunity to take some good photos. It turns out I was right:

I found the look on this little girl’s face quite wonderful:

And here I did the whole “foreground in focus, background out of focus” photography thing that is just so popular:

Magic bus

You walk around New York and you see the weirdest things:

I thought this looked like somewhere out in Africa and yet it is a couple of hundred feet from where I work. Ah, and of course, urban grit:

Movement

The Olympics is on now and what do I love the best? My boy Michael Phelps winning eight gold medals and my heart? Sure. Gymnastics that is always so amazing? Of course. But what I love the very best is the photography coming out of the games. The way the movement that is captured is amazing to me. If some random person is reading this who thinks I am a fantastic photographer (just kidding!) and wants to know what my ultimate dream is, it is to photograph the Olympics.

Anyway, here is my first step towards my “Olympic dream” — my photos of dancers I saw on Governor’s Island on Saturday:

All right, I am not a professional sports photographer yet, and I do better with objects that are sitting still, preferably those that are large buildings, but lemme know how I did with these.

Sunshine

No, just kidding. At about 5pm today, the skies opened up near my job. Unreal rain outside and of course, I did what I’ve been told I do best:

This is, in case you didn’t catch on, the view out of the window of my new job.

More rain photos, I know, but this is my latest obsession. I will photograph this into oblivion, then move on to my next thing. Oh well.

A tour of the neighborhood

I thought it might be fun to post some photos of the neighborhood of where I now work. Now this first thing isn’t really really near where I work, but when the sun is setting on this thing at the end of the day, well, it is pretty incredible:

A nice landscape:

Of course my great love is the Chrysler building, but this can look good too. Now this is right near where I work. The buildings in New York always look like canyons to me, never more than these:

Yes everyone in case you were wondering, no matter what it is always 1925 when I photograph New York and Gershwin is always playing. Well, its always playing in my head. Where everyone else is, is another story entirely.

Sometimes I just take a photo

Yeah, its a gritty, black and white alley, but when I saw this, I knew it had huge potential. The perspective also attracted me to it. I also did a light sepia version and something really color saturated:

I’m in love with the red one. What do you think? Which do you like best?

Apt life

This is the view outside of my window. I looked out and thought it looked like that Hitchcock movie where Jimmy Stewart watches his neighbor out the window. I loved the cit-i-fied look of this place:

I need to photograph some fields or nature or something. I feel like a one trick pony, but the city is just so inspiring. What can I say?
