Hello I Love You. CALL ME!!!

In a summer in the city, typical New York moment, the gentleman, who was not actually naked, saw me taking his photo when he was wearing his cardboard sign and signaled for me to call him.  I have to say, it was a tempting offer.  He’s just my type.  Check him out:

This One Has a Kind of A Vermeer Thing Going On

Today I went to Salem and met a man at the Peabody Essex Museum.  He is a guard there, but had also participated in an art project organized by an artist there and is himself an artist.  He explained how the artist he worked with on the project was very concerned with natural environments and who we are in them.

I then tried to explain my philosophy of photography, about how I look at a scene and imagine another scene or time in that scene.  I take normal life and make it into a kind of a film still.  Or I reimagine it in the form of a painting or another scene.  That’s kind of what I did here.  I reimagined this scene as a scene from Vermeer.

Maybe it worked, maybe it didn’t, but I did think about Vermeer when I took this photo:

Summer

Somehow living in Boston, my emotions about seasons have become more intensified.  I feel very strongly about winter because that is when the mountains call, but summer too.  I have strong feelings about it.

A couple of years ago I spent my first real summer at my job at the school.  At 2 or 3 pm, another part of the day would start.  The part of the day when a person went outside to enjoy the fresh air.  That was something I had not experienced in an extremely long time.

I remember the first summer I ever worked.  I was in Washington DC, where the summer is hotter and more humid than any other place on god’s green earth.  I’d be walking to work through this ridiculous sweltering heat when I would realize — hey, I’m still working and it is June and July.  Somehow the year had no divide.  It was summer, I worked.  I was winter, I worked.  Sure the temperature was different but the situation was all the time.

Now I feel differently about summer.  Summer is kind of heat, sweat and fun now.  Lots of people, lots of activity.  And I love that:

Well Played Germany. Well Played.

Today I saw a unicorn.  Sasquatch crossed my path holding hands with Jimmy Hoffa.  And then a yeti announced his intention to run for Congressional office.

Oh and Germany eliminated Brazil from the world cup by a score of 1-0.  No, I’m kidding.  It was 7-1.  That second score should have been the joke but alas it wasn’t.

In appreciation of this mind blowing event, here are some photos of some Americans watching some Germans playing against some other Americans in Brazil.  These photos are not even from Brazil, but rather from Boston.  Watching the watchers.  Because here at Wrongsideofthecamera, we deliver hard hitting, market leading scoops on all developing news situations.

Now here are some photos from last week, the week before or something:

Nothing But Trouble That Arthur

First I met an Arthur, actually an Arturo, who caused trouble in my life.

Then I met Arthur.  No, Arthur is not an person, he, she or it is a storm that invaded Boston a couple of days ago.  And invade he/she/it did.  There were the warnings.  There was talk of rain, lots of rain.  But Arthur left us alone for the duration of the fireworks.  Actually until after the fireworks, when I saw something that I have never seen in my entire life.

I’m standing on Main Street in Cambridge and off in the distance, there is a mass of rain off in the distance.  For some reason, I didn’t think this mass of rain would reach me.  That was kind of a stupid thought because it did quickly reach me.  And when it did, everyone RAN in other directions, like in a movie where Godzilla appears.  Very interesting.

But Arthur didn’t ruin the fireworks, thank god:
